Marion Meadows
Born in West Virginia and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, Meadows began his musical journey playing the clarinet and studying classical music at the age of nine. He later switched to the tenor saxophone in high school and eventually found his passion for the soprano saxophone.
Influenced by jazz greats such as Stanley Turrentine, John Coltrane, and Grover Washington, Meadows studied jazz at Rippowam High School with Anthony Truglia. He furthered his education at Berklee College of Music, majoring in arranging and composition, and at SUNY Purchase School for the Arts.
Meadows' career took off after he joined drummer Norman Connors' band, producing the "Passion" album. His solo career began with the release of "For Lovers Only" in 1991. A pivotal moment occurred in the late '80s when his impromptu performance at New York’s Grand Central Station caught the attention of producer Jay Chattaway, leading to a collaboration with keyboardist Bob James.
Over the years, Meadows has performed and recorded with a host of celebrated artists, including Brook Benton, Eartha Kitt, Phyllis Hyman, The Temptations, Michael Bolton, and Angela Bofill. He also ventured into avant-garde music with the Aboriginal Music Society in the late '80s.
